DAY OF THE DEAD WORKSHOP
SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE - MEXICO
with Chris Suspect

In Mexico, Day of the Dead is one of the most colorful and charming holidays of the year. It is the time when Mexicans welcome the dead back to earth for a visit, even while mocking death itself.  Featuring several parades, all night celebrations at beautifully decorated cemeteries, art installations, dances and lusciously decorated public altars in homes and the streets around the entire town.

San Miguel de Allende was named " Best City in the World" by Travel and Leisure and has been named one of the top destinations in the world. Its cobblestone streets, colorful architecture and bustling art and music scene, along with fantastic food, are some of the reasons why people visit this charming colonial town in Mexico.

Join acclaimed street photographer Chris Suspect and take your street photography to the next level. Chris will review the basics of street photography, what street photography is and is not, and the history of street photography including the work of the masters.

Learn how one “reads” a street photography image and how to identify the elements of what makes a street photograph successful. Chris will discuss visual cues to keep in the back of your mind when shooting from juxtapositions, tricks of perspective, multiple points of interest, capturing raw emotion, layering, obscuring elements, geometric principles, shadow play, and harnessing the subliminal power of semiotics. Chris also works a lot with flash and will share techniques to shoot at night in the festivities around San Miguel.

This workshop is for all levels but a basic understanding of how to operate your camera is expected. A laptop and thumb drive will be required for editing and the feedback sessions. Any camera is accepted.
