NICK TURPIN

 

Nick Turpin is a London based Street Photographer, in 2000 he was the founder of the in-public street photographers group which played a significant role in the modern resurgence of interest in Street Photography as an approach.

 

Nick is the Art Director of STREET LONDON and creator of the #canpubphoto initiative to identify candid public photography online. Nick is also an experienced advertising, design and editorial photographer with major campaigns under his belt for brands such as IBM, Toyota, Barclays Bank and Jaguar. His recent book On The Night Bus explores the lives of London Bus commuters travelling home in the winter months. Nick has taught Street Photography for The Tate Gallery, Sony World Photography Organization and on the Discovery Channel.

3-DAY WORKSHOP

DESCRIPTION

Millions of photographs are taken every day but very few of those are actually pictures, and even fewer are pictures that convey the unique vision of the individual photographer that took them.

In this workshop Nick Turpin will focus on elevating your street photography to something that is special, unique and identifiably yours. Nick will encourage you to discover and own your individual visual vocabulary, which he sees as vital to taking your street photography to the next level. The workshop will educate, inspire and challenge you through a series of briefs over three days. Nick will assist you in assessing your own work in preparation for presenting and justifying it on the final evening.

DATES : Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th and Friday 7th, December 2018.

               Group meets at  10 am:  Inspiration, Practice and Review .

Street Photography Definitions and Motivations.

Street Photography History and present context.

The difference between taking a Photograph and making a Picture.

Constructing a Street Photograph. Str.ategies for working on the street.

Shooting on the street including one to one time with Nick for half the group.

Edit and send images to Nick overnight.

Day 2

Review of previous afternoons im.ges.

Finding your voice within street photogr.phy.

Projects and Styles.

Exploring Street Photographers who have a distinctive and recognisable personal vision.

Review of previous afternoons images with special attention to individual styles and approach.

Street Shooting a collaborative group project late morning.

TUITION: $750

Cancellation:  If cancelled more than 60 days in advance:  Full refund.  
                            If cancelled between 59 and 30 days:  Full refund minus a $175 cancellation fee.  
                            If cancelled within 30 days :  No refund but If we can fill your spot with another student from a waiting list we   will refund the amount paid minus the $175 cancellation fee.
