All over Mexico, Holy Week and Easter are celebrated as significant religious holidays. Processions, altars, and "Passion Plays" reenacting the last days of Christ are performed in several cities. The traditions go back several centuries. Almost nowhere in Mexico is Semana Santa recognized with such reverence, tradition and awe as in San Miguel de Allende. Visitors both devout and curious come from all over Mexico (and the world) to experience the intense emotion of these observances of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.

San Miguel de Allende was named " Best City in the World" by Travel and Leisure and has been named one of the top destinations in the world. Its cobblestone streets, colorful architecture and bustling art and music scene, along with fantastic food, are some of the reasons why people visit this charming colonial town in Mexico.

Join acclaimed street photographers Chris Suspect, and MSPF founder and Director Juan Jose Reyes and take your street photography to the next level. Juan and Chris have been doing photography workshops in San Miguel de Allende since 2018. They have extensive knowledge of the town and the best places to get great images.

They will review the basics of street photography, what street photography is and is not, and the history of street photography including the work of the masters. Learn how one “reads” a street photography image and how to identify the elements of what makes a street photograph successful and win contests.

Chris will discuss visual cues to keep in the back of your mind when shooting from juxtapositions, tricks of perspective, multiple points of interest, capturing raw emotion, layering, obscuring elements, geometric principles, shadow play, and harnessing the subliminal power of semiotics. Chris also works a lot with flash and will share techniques to shoot at night in the festivities around San Miguel.

Juan will share his ten years of experience overseeing the largest street photography contest in the world. Learn the Three Types of Street Photographers,  the Five Levels of Street Photography, and the three key elements to help you decide if it’s a winning image

This workshop is for all levels but a basic understanding of how to operate your camera is expected. A laptop and thumb drive will be required for editing and the feedback sessions. Any camera is accepted.
